报告摘要:

Understanding and controlling catalyst surfaces and electrode/electrolyte interfaces is key to optimizing fuel cells and electrolysers. Metal particles supported on oxide surfaces underpin the global chemical industry and many emergent clean energy technologies. Current particle deposition or assembly methods offer limited control over size, coverage, and especially metal-surface linkage. This lecture presents new approaches to deliver effective catalysts and electrocatalysts for hydrogen production, CO₂ conversion, and ammonia technologies. While many technologies seek to deliver Net Zero, most fall short when whole life cycle is considered. Professor Irvine will discuss low-carbon technologies that actually reduce carbon impact, highlighting recent breakthroughs from St Andrews in understanding and controlling processes at catalyst surfaces and interfaces to enable next-generation sustainable energy systems.
